Learn not to hate this place but to respect it because it has been cleaning the garbage of the society for ages.
Red light area, this word seems to be forbidden to us in the civilized world. I don’t see anyone pronouncing this word very loudly or in a normal manner, he pronounces this word in a very slow pace so that not many people can hear. But all these women working here are carrying the biggest garbage of this society. For ages these women have been trying to rid the society of the poison by harboring the poison of the society but we never give them the respect they deserve. There are many people and even women who say that the profession is so bad that they even hate it. My question to them is that if this part of the society did not exist, what would you do to remedy the garbage that would have grown in the society? In fact, we have only learned to speak ill of others, have learned to disrespect others’ work but have not learned any good work ourselves. That is why the number of bad people is increasing day by day in our society and even we ourselves are going from bad to worse. Many days ago I saw an advertisement in which it was seen that during office hours various vehicles are passing on the road with a log lying in the middle of the road causing a traffic jam. There are many men but no one is trying on their own to remove the log and make the traffic normal while they are giving various suggestions sitting in the car. At that time some children got down from the car and moved the log from the road and the adults present there were shocked to see it. This is the current state of our society. That is, there are many people to condemn but the responsibility of cleaning up the society rests on the shoulders of certain people.
Many may not know that the soil used for making Durga Puja idols in West Bengal is first taken from the place where such women live i.e. from the red light area. But despite that we constantly disrespect them and look down on them even they don’t get anything for the contribution they are constantly making to the society, in reality I say they don’t get anything for what they contribute to the society because of the horrible politics of India. Allowing the higher classes of society to share the income with them does little more than survive on what is left. But women of this profession cannot participate in any function of the society, but they are doing all kinds of work to light up the society even from the darkness of the society for ages. In most cases it is seen that all these women’s income goes to their home but their family members do not allow them to go home even once a year because they feel ashamed that if their daughter’s identity is known in the society how can they live in a civilized society. They do not feel ashamed when they enjoy their daughter’s income but once that girl goes home everyone will know her identity. It is a shame to think how low minded the people of our civilized society are. I read an open letter that was published in a newspaper and it was based on a true story. Where a young woman who works in a red light area writes a letter to her mother asking her mother and other family members to allow her to spend at least two days at her house during Puja. The girl tells her mother in a letter that she will not leave the house for two days and lie on her mother’s lap so that she can get some mental pleasure as well as happiness. She doesn’t get that either. In fact, our society is becoming more and more selfish, so day by day we are turning from human beings into demons. I don’t know how many women there are in the society whose tears are falling on the ground every day and I think if these women in the society do not get the respect they deserve then maybe the burden of sin in our society will increase and one day we will have to answer to God for this and no one will be spared.
It has happened to many of us that we may have mistakenly entered a red light area without realizing it, but for a few moments until we were able to get out, how fear or dread works in our minds. It’s hard for us to imagine the suffocating environment in which we can’t stay even for a few moments. But all these women have to spend in this suffocating environment till the day before their death even they do not see the outside world because once they reach this world it is not possible to go to the outside world and no civilized people accept them. My only message to the society is that we may not be able to change their fate or change their economic condition but if we are a little sympathetic towards them or if we change our taste towards them then what is wrong? Each of us is a guest for a few days in this world and each is playing a different role. After some time this drama will end and we have to get off the stage but we all are equal so please people should try to love each other instead of hating each other then maybe we can make the society better. Although currently the government has taken adequate measures for the workers working in the red light area and given various rules necessary to prevent any kind of infection from here and many of them have been given health insurance but even though they are still not enough our government still needs to do a lot of work. The most important thing is that I personally believe that everyone who is in this profession voluntarily has some obligation to their family and there are many of them who cannot go back to the normal world after entering this profession, so my request to the government if Any woman in this profession who wants to go back to normal life should be made sure and necessary steps should be taken for her because every human being has the right to live so that right should not be taken away from anyone. Just like the intellectuals of our society feel pained to see a caged bird and get upset when an animal is killed during a festival, they should think about this class of people no matter how much they are the guide of the society they should raise their voice on this issue so that this class of women get some justice. Because they have been wronged for ages, we should at least be of such a mindset that we can share some of our happiness with them.
