
Spectacular Architecture of Burdwan
Curzon Gate is a spectacular architecture of Burdwan was built in 1903 by the king Bijoy Chandra Mahtab. At present the Curzon gate works as a prominent landmark in Burdwan District of the State West Bengal. Although after Independence the name of it changed to Bijoy Torn. The gate consists of a giant central arch, which is flanked on either side by small arches. Such gate was built by inspired from one gate in capital of Italy. But it is now a popular tourist destination in Burdwan.
How to Reach?
- From Burdwan Rail station head east towards the Arambagh – Bardhhaman Road.
- Pass by the Parbir Hata Bastuhara Natun Bazaar
- Pass by Dhal Dighi Petrol Pump
- Just near the entrance gate of the B.C. Road you will find the Curzon gate.
Why Such Gate is Famous?
The architectural style here is wonderful which is the main reason for tourists come here. Especially at night when the lights are decorated on this gate, its beauty increases to a great extent. The residence of King & Queen was just at a distance of 1 km from the gate, so it is relevant place in terms of historically too. The painting style by the master A.F. Hugh on the sculpture enhances the attraction of this gate to a great extent.
