Devi is the Protector of Her Devotees

This temple is located at Amta of Howrah district in West Bengal nearby Damodar River. Apart from Maa Melai Chandi, Devi is the Protector of Her Devotees, the temple complex also has Mahadev Temple, Radha-Krishna Temple, Ramakrishna-Sarada Temple, a Nat Temple and two lion statues above the entrance of the temple

On the days of Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Poila Baishakh, Ghajan, pujas are held here in grand style and every Monday and Saturday are crowded with visitors and pujas are held regularly every day.

It Is considered one of the 108 volumes of Goddess Sati in Shasta.  Melai Chaki is which of its left leg fell here. The name of the first priest of this temple is Jata Dhari Chakraborty. He got this dream of God and started this puja in a village called Jayanti, which is 3 kilometers away from Amta.

Later, a salt merchant from Burdwan district built the Melai Chandi Devi temple and Nath temple at Amta, which has been rebuilt many times by local residents of Amta.

Bus available from Howrah to Jikhira Narit, Dihibhurshut pass through Amta and there are many local trains from Howrah to Amta.

For weekend tour it’s the recommended place.
