
Sati Pith of Medinipur
The Bargabhima Temple which is only one sati pith of Medinipur, also known as Vibhash Shakti Peeth and Bhimakali Mandir, is devoted to the Goddess Sati. This particular shrine of one of the 51 shakti piths Temples stands by River Roop Narayana in Talmud village, Midnapur district in West Bengal. It is the place where left ankle of sati fell. Now it is a heritage site of west Bengal Government. Many freedoms fighter including Khudiram Bose used to come here for worshipping. The temple is a mixing result of Hindu and Buddhism sculptures techniques. Prasad of Devi is non-veg and a cooked Snakehead Murrel is mandatory for her.

The temple is distance of approx. 90 km from Kolkata and 80 km from Kharagpur and well connected by National Highway 6.
History of Bargabhima Mandir
Bargabhima temple was built nearly 1150 years ago by a Maharaja of the Mayor Dynasty. This Temple has been mentioned in the Mahabharata as a place which Bhima acquired. In fact, there is a story about this temple. It was the time of ancient Mahabharata when there was a king named Tamaj or Tamradhwaj’. He had a fisherwoman who used to catch fish for king, and she lived in a dense forest. One day she saw a pond after finishing fishing then she cut all the fishes and sank them in water, but she saw all the dead fishes became alive. then she told everything to King. King decided to build a temple near to that pond which is known today as Bargabhima Temple.
Fairs Celebration
Barunir Fair is celebrated during Makara Shankranti and Bhima Fair is celebrated on Magha Shuddha Ekadashi. Ratha Jatra is celebrated in the Bengali month of Ashar. Charak Fair is also celebrated. The other important festivals are Sharad Purnima, Deepawali, Somvati Amavasya, Ram Navami and Navaratri. Bali Pratha is almost abolished from here except only once in a year.
