Buying Metals Objects on Dhanteras to Economic Growth, Myth Behind Dhanteras.

Myth Behind Dhanteras.

Durga Puja or Navratri is gone now Dhanteras is coming. Based on this Dhanteras, there is a belief among Hindus that if they buy any metal items on this day, they will have economic prosperity. So on this day they buy silver or other metal items, those who can’t afford it at least buy some metal utensils in the hope that their economy will improve. There was a time when this concept was restricted to the upper class or more specifically the Barwari community but now we see common Hindu families or common middle class families buying some kind of metal objects on the occasion of Dhanteras.

There is a myth about this Dhanteras that people should know. While the gods and demons were churning the sea for nectar, a god called Dhanvantari emerged from the sea. The Sanskrit word Dhal actually means wealth, but today’s people think of wealth only as economic relations, but in those days, team meant health and wealth as well. The concept of Ayurveda came to us by that deity when he appeared during the churning of the sea. That is, the deity of Ayurvedic scriptures is also called this Dhanvantari, in fact this Dhanvantari deity is a part of Lord Vishnu. By this deity people get good health and get rid of diseases which was considered an important asset in those days. But today wealth refers only to economic possessions. And when this Dhanvantari appeared he had some metal weapons with him. So common people buy various metal objects on this day hoping that they will get rich very quickly.

But let’s say one thing, our intention is not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments but we have discussed both the conventional story about Dhanteras and the back story that goes with him but on this day a different kind of frenzy works especially among traders that their business grows. Because these days are sold in large quantities ie from their side it is obviously a good day. But the purpose with which buyers buy various metals and commodities on Dhanteras day will never work because economic growth requires hard work and there is no substitute for hard work. But finally, I wish you all the best on the occasion of Dhanteras. May your life be good and your family be happy and prosperous. It is our prayer to God for you.
