Did Dharmendra Convert into Islam?
Dharmendra and Hema Malini married each other in 1980, although many questions arose over the validity of their marriage after this marriage. The reason for the controversy is that when Dharmendra married Hima, Dharmendu was already married and even had four children, so many people questioned him as to how he could have another marriage while he was already married. It was then rumored that Dharmendra and Hema Malini got married after converting to Islam because according to Islam a person can have a maximum of four marriages and thus it is legally and socially harmless.
Although O Dharmendra and Hema Malini never admitted to this conversion to Islam, the question remained whether they were legally married or their marriage was a complete rumour. In 2004 when Dharmendra contested the Lok Sabha elections, he only mentioned the first fixed thing as his wife i.e. he did not mention Hema Malini as his wife, when Hema Malini was questioned about it she said it is completely our personal matter for an outsider to poke nose about it. Later though, Dharmendra opened up about it and said that he was not selfish enough to leave his religion for marriage, meaning that none of them admitted it and it was only a media rumour.
