Does Islam not support democracy?
Bangladeshi hardliners have already started saying that democracy has no place in Islam i.e. democracy is a forbidden word according to their religion. I don’t know about Islam but I have heard this from many fundamentalist Muslims. Although there is no such thing as democracy in many Muslim countries of the world, there are still monarchies. But we can easily make some prediction about Bangladesh with this matter..Mohammad Yunus was put in power only to conduct elections but the speeches he is giving now is clear that there will be no elections in two years or five years now or say there will be no elections in Bangladesh. In this situation, it is clear that hardliners will never hold elections in Bangladesh, they will always prefer to keep the power in their hands.
The people who will suffer the most are the common people of Bangladesh who are currently struggling with the constant rise in commodity prices. And we know one thing very well that in a country where there is no democracy, the government of the country has no responsibility towards its people. In fact they have no fear of losing power so they enjoy free will. Even if it is not assumed that India will not interfere in the affairs of Bangladesh, the common people of Bangladesh will have to pay a huge price because they once chased Sheikh Hasina out of their country, who made a lot of progress in their country and even built a metro rail. The development of a country that is in the hands of fundamentalist extremists can never continue, as we have seen in Afghanistan through the Taliban regime, because the people there are still used to the primitive way of life of 2000 years. But finally I will say that if there is no election in Bangladesh or if there is no election after that then the most fooled are the common people of Bangladesh who themselves killed the democracy of Bangladesh but they will understand the consequences soon. One thing is given in the mind of the common people of Bangladesh that Sheikh Hasina was a dictator but they have not seen the real thing of dictatorship till now they will see that if there is no elected government then how terrible the government of that country can be to the people of that country even though the people of Bangladesh are driven by emotions and without intelligence.
