Root cause of conflict between India & Bangladesh
Hi guys, today I am here with a new topic which is now at the epicenter of conflict between India & Bangladesh. Mainly Farakka is the main root cause of conflict between India & Bangladesh. In most of the cases Bangladeshi people claim it the reason of flood in their country is this barrage. Their point India government control on water and for that they have to suffer. As they do not get water in summer because India closed the gate of Farakka Barrage but in moon soon they open the all door of barrage so a good portion of their country is submerged in the water due to excessive water released by Indian Government. But the fact is in monsoon not only their areas are flooded but also some states of India like Bihar & west Bengal also flood but set up a barrage was very essential for India after freedom.
The project construction commenced in 1961 and the project was commissioned and dedicated to the Nation in May 1975. The Farakka Barrage Project was designed to serve the need of preservation and maintenance of the Kolkata Port by improving the regime and navigability of the Bhagirathi-Hoogly river system. So the contribution of this dam is great in Indian economy. in one side for this dam huge amount of electricity is generated in other side the navigability of Kolkata port also can be maintained.
The barrage was constructed by Hindustan Construction Company. In May 1974 a joint declaration was issued to resolve the water–sharing issue before the Farakka Barrage began operation. With the government change in Our neighbouring country this issue has taken a new form. Farakka Barrage is one of India’s well-established water-linked infrastructure behemoths. You pass by 109 gates amidst the crowded traffic on the bridge. The farakka barrage also provides a lot of benefits to the people of West Bengal. Among the key benefits, the most important include hydroelectricity, cultivation and transportation.
As a tourist Honestly say it is not a great idea to visit here because maybe you will be disappointed but for those people who love water as well as nature obviously, they can visit here as a weekend tour. Almost it takes 5 to 6 hours by train from Howrah or Kolkata. My personal experience while you will go by train over it, that particular moment will be really memorable. But at the same time, you will fear also because the sound of water is like a monster is shouting. Some temples are there and the culture of local people you will like. And I must say again for photography this area is very good.
