Bhai Doose in Hinduism

Vaifonta or Bhatravitiya is a popular festival in India and among Hindus. This festival is celebrated among Hindus on the second tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartik. Not only in India but also in Nepal this festival is celebrated by another name. On this day in the Hindu community sisters or aunts pray to Yamaraj for the longevity of their brothers or grandfathers as Yamaraj is the god of death.

According to religious texts, on the day of Kartika Shukla II, Yamuna received a boon to pay homage to her brother Yama, which is why Vaiphonta is also known as Yama II. In fact, according to the boon of Yamaraj, a person who worships Yama by bathing in the Yamuna on this day, will not have to go to Yamaloka after death, his brother will be saved from an untimely death. On the other hand, Yamuna, the daughter of Surya, is considered as Goddess Swarupa, who removes all suffering. For this reason, bathing in the river Yamuna and worshiping Yamuna and Yamraj on the day of Yama II is of special importance. According to Puranas, worship performed on this day pleases Lord Yama and gives desired results.
