Indian Bengali films of the 60’s and 70’s decade movies are my favorite. Soumitra Chatterjee’s impeccable performance enthralled the audience.
I love the movies of the 1960s or the 1970s, be it Hindi or Bengali. Exaggeration was not the thing in the cinema of that time. It was presented in such a simple way. There were no unnecessary songs like nowadays movies are forced into music and there are several unrealistic scenes that are laughable. If we talk about the golden age of Bengali cinema, the names of Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee must be mentioned. Today I saw a Bengali movie by Soumitra Chatterjee called Alyar Alo. Soumitra Chatterjee acted in this movie along with Savitri Chatterjee and many famous artists were seen along with them. The stories of the movies of that time were very unique which means that there is no similarity between one and the other that’s why people still like to watch the movies of that time even many young generation boys like these movies.
The plot of the movie is about a rich man who is addicted to hunting deer in the forest. This man had a brother who was completely dishonest. His brother hated him because their father had written a will that all the property would be owned by his elder brother. But it was written that if for some reason his elder brother dies childless then he will own all the property. So he took the opportunity and killed his elder brother and announced to the people that he had died at the hands of a tiger. Meanwhile, his daughter-in-law gave birth to a daughter, but it was written in the will that even if there was no son, his younger brother would inherit all the property. When his daughter-in-law gave birth to a daughter, the company had a manager she trusted and knew everything about the will. Then the manager brought a son from somewhere else and placed him with his daughter-in-law and gave the daughter to someone else. The son was played by Soumitra Chatterjee and the woman’s real daughter was Savitri Chatterjee who was growing up in another family.
As they grow up the two fall in love and later get to know each other’s identity. At the end of the movie it is seen that Soumitra Chatterjee was the son of an employee of the company and his father dies at the end of the movie . Father charector was played by famous actor Kali Banerjee. If I say in one word the movie was amazing, a lot can be learned from this movie. Two very good actors I have seen are Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee I have seen many movies of Soumitra Chatterjee but his old age movies usually not so much his young age movies I watched one today and want to watch more movies in future. This actor is no more with us, wherever he is, we wish him peace and we are still enjoying the precious gems he gave to Bengali cinema. I salute you wherever you are.
