Is running the state according to the rules of religion a right decision in the current times? If religion is a matter of personal choice then why so much conflict over religion?.
Yesterday my teacher gave me a topic on which I had to say something and the topic is whether religion is a personal matter and Should any state have any religion? Although it is a controversial issue and creates controversy nowadays no one dares to discuss it openly because nowadays any topic you go to talk about will be considered from some religious angle. But I am open minded so I never hesitate to give my opinion on anything. To understand this, you first need to understand what religion is and how it was created. After the birth of human beings they had no specific rules i.e. many rules were needed to live life properly. These rules are made in such a way that no injustice is done to the weak and the society works according to justice and against of injustice. And all these rules were made depending on the time and social system. Remember I am talking about a time when humanity was not there and consciousness was not so awakened among them. So the presence of religion was definitely desirable to unite them. Also, to reach oneself to the Creator, religion lays down certain rules through which we can easily come in contact with the Creator. Today the people of the world have changed their taste in clothing and lifestyle has changed all over the time. Therefore, it is not possible to run the present world with all those rules, moreover, there is not only one religion in the world, but there are many religions, their rules are all different. So if you want to run the whole country by adopting only one religion then it is not possible because it will be partiality and people of other religions will not accept it and also it is not practically correct because it is not possible to run the country by all those rules because I have said before. I said all these rules were made thousands of years ago depending on the social system. So if one wants to apply all those rules in personal life it is up to him but it is never possible in the case of the state because the state cannot function in this manner at present. Therefore, it is up to one to decide how one should live his life, but religion should never be used in the governance of the state, but religion should be guided by humanity..
With an example you can understand the whole thing like if we talk about Taliban militant group of Afghanistan then we can see that once they were against all kind of information technology but now they are living their life by information technology so with time they are forced to change themselves. Pakistan’s fundamentalists, who were once against television, now have television in almost every home, and this is the reason for the change. These changes must be in the people because living in the present age people cannot live with the rules made 1500 or 2000 years ago. And if I talk about a state then the religion of this state can never be a particular religion because the state has to think about the people of different religions and they have to think about their interests so the state should always be secular. I don’t think this is only the case with India because there are many countries in the world which are known as Muslim countries or Christian countries or Buddhist countries but in reality I think no country should have any religion. Religion is a matter of personal choice of people but the state should always be secular otherwise some people are wronged. Why I say unfair I can argue that if a country is Christian i.e. the religion of that country is Christian then it is not true that all the citizens of that country follow that particular religion i.e. there are citizens of other religions in that country so if the religion of a country If you are a Christian, isn’t that state doing injustice to people of other religions? The same applies to Muslim countries i.e. there should never be a state religion, religion is entirely a matter of personal choice.
