Kolkata Zoo
Last year I went on a winter trip with my family to Kolkata Alipore Zoo or Kolkata Zoo. It is a beautiful place surrounded by lush green nature that preserves a variety of wild animals. The 150-year-old zoo was inaugurated by the Prince of Wales on 1 January 1876.Zoo entry fee is Rupees 50 per head. But for children of 2-5 years 20 Rupees per head.Available tikit ofline and online also.Zoo opening hours 9 am to 5 pm.As soon as I entered the zoo, I noticed a map in which there are some animals kept in the zoo of 40 acres. There is a reptile house, ape house, panther house, elephant house, tiger and lion enclosures, a zoo for children, and a variety of birds.
There is a board in the zoo in the name of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva which says that on 24-2-1884 Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva visited the zoo.Above the Alipore Zoo is the Calcutta Acodeum. The nearest metro station to Alipore Zoo is Rabindra Sadan. The zoo is open for tourists for 46 days from 31st January to 15th January. However, if you come to visit during summer, the zoo is closed on Thursday.
The Calcutta Journal of Natural History in 1841 mentions the long experience of building the Alipore Zoo. In the early days of Alipore Zoo, various aristocrats and British citizens used to bring their pet birds with the aim of expanding the zoo. In 1876, an Englishman named Robert Clive gave him a tortoise, the tortoise named “Albeda”. The tortoise lived for 250 years and died in 2006. The government’s revenue from Alipur Zoo is very low. In 2005, the entrance fee was Tk 10 per head. According to the report of 2005, the annual population of Alipur Zoo is 20 lakhs.
