Durga Puja is over and then comes the worship of Maa Kali in West Bengal at this time Maa Kali is worshiped with great fanfare. In Howrah, an industrial place in West Bengal, Kali Puja is performed with great grandeur, but in our villages, Kali Puja is performed according to their own means. I am not here to talk about Kali Puja organized by any club or any famous organization but today I will tell you about our childhood experience when we did Kali Puja and a miracle that happened to us.
At that time we have seen for ourselves when we were in primary school or a little older there was a tendency among children to do Kali Puja which is not seen much nowadays. That’s how some of us kids organized a Kali Puja. Of course the guardians of the house were responsible for all the expenses of the puja and I myself collected as much as I could from the streets but it was very meager so I could not give much to Baman Thakur but he was satisfied with what I could give. A few of us took the initiative of this puja but then we did not know that even though this puja organized by us was small, actually the goddess would come to our small puja mandapa. Kunal, a classmate of ours, was responsible for making the Maa Kali idol, although I haven’t seen Kunal for a long time, I don’t know how he is now, but I miss him a lot. Anyway, I will tell about him you one another day. when he completes idol of Ma Kali we got ready to bring it. We all got together and brought the statue on a bicycle. There was a bamboo garden in front, so we cut some kanchi from there and completed the work of the puja mandap and we were doing these things very happily, so we did many difficult tasks very easily.
The parents of the house were not enjoying our work and were scolding us because it was a lot of trouble. We were very young and we did not know many rules. We performed the Kali Puja with the priest who came to do our puja every day and gave him a small fee though it was not suitable for him but he did not say anything else as to where we children would get the money from and he gladly accepted the small amount. During the puja night we stayed away from the puja mandap because we had to protect the puja mandap from various wild animals and especially dogs so we slept there after eating. The incident that I will tell next is the incident of the next day i.e. nothing special happened on that day. Then one of our neighbors was suddenly behaving strangely. We all went to see what happened and our parents were also with us. The neighbor was behaving like a madman and he was shouting and pointing at our guardian as if he was trying to say something. Then he began to speak clearly. ” How dare you leave your kids out all night? You know, if it wasn’t for me, they wouldn’t be alive today. They were alive today because of me.” We were not old enough to understand this but when I grew up I understood what Maa Kali meant by that person. Various evil spirits and various negative energies were healing in that place and attacked us as we were children but Goddess Mother saved us and protected us. Incidentally, after this incident, the person never behaved like this again i.e. we are sure that Maa Kali told all these things on him that day. In fact Goddess Ma never attended the puja arrangement, the most important weapon to invoke Maa Kali is Bhakti, only with this devotion Maa can reach any place. When we were young we didn’t have the sraddha to make big arrangements to worship Kali but that’s why mother didn’t let us down, mother appeared in our small mandap not only because we were her children but she protected us throughout the night. All over the country, even in West Bengal, how many Kali Pujas are held during this Kali Puja and how big are their arrangements, with a budget of crores of rupees, all those Pujas are shot, but Maa Kali does not appear there, Maa Kali comes where puja is done with devotion.
After that, it was not possible to do puja for some reason, I got stuck for some reason or another, but it is not that there is no economic situation now, in fact, that devotion is not in me now, so maybe the desire to do puja is not in my mind or even if the desire arises to complete it. I can’t, I have lost that devotion in my mind. But I hope that with mother’s blessings, that ability or desire will come back in me again.
