Mangal Gunj Nilkuthi, A Haunted Place of West Bengal

Mangal Gunj Nilkuthi, A Haunted Place of West Bengal. Some Months ago, we visited this place. British ruled India for about 200 years and during this time they brutally oppressed many people in different parts of India. The farmers who were directly involved in the production were tortured the most because there is a province in India called West Bengal for indigo cultivation. Because of its fertile land, the British chose West Bengal for indigo cultivation, although the farmers did not want to grow indigo at all because they felt that if only they cultivated indigo, how would they eat, so there were occasional revolts among them. To quell the rebellion, the British brutally tortured the rebels and even killed several of them and threw them into the river. When you come to this state of West Bengal in India, you will find many places that are abandoned where once there were big buildings and those buildings are now in dilapidated condition. At one time these houses were used as offices for indigo cultivation i.e. those who did not want to cultivate indigo were brought here and killed. There are many such historical places that are still known today as haunted places and today we will discuss about one of them.

This Nilkuthi is currently located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal province of India, which the locals call Mangalkot Nilkuthi i.e. the name of the place is Mangalkot. The Nilkuthi is here. Nilkuthi means indigo trading office. At one time indigo farmers who did not want to grow indigo were subjected to massive torture in this building. To be honest we were not aware of the history of this place till we visited this place but after talking to the local people we came to know that this Nilkuthi is now a terror of the area. This building is so scary that no one likes to visit this place after afternoon because they believe that the spirit of a British officer still haunts this place. Even those who don’t believe in ghosts can come to this place because we feel that if they come, they can feel that there is something that cannot be seen, even if they don’t see ghosts, it is our experience. When we visited the place we knew nothing about the history of the place but we felt the power or existence of various forces there. We had a dog with us i.e. the dog we took was our pet dog but we don’t know why that dog was barking so much although he was a very calm dog i.e. barking for no reason was against his nature but we were wondering why he was doing that I could not understand anything. And that pet dog was trying to come out of that abandoned house again and again we didn’t understand why it was like that because we went there for a historical tour but we didn’t understand that it was a haunted place. Then we talk to the local people and learn about the history of the place.

According to the local villagers, the abandoned house was once built by a king and the year was 1859. Then the king built the building and gave it to the British and the British used it as an indigo plantation office. The main work of this office was to produce indigo from different places, then there is a river next to it, the name of the river is Ichamati. Basically, the work of calculating the amount of indigo being imported or the amount of indigo going out here was done here for foreign purposes. But basically this place was used for the torture of the farmers i.e. those farmers who did not want to grow indigo were brought here and beaten up even there is a tunnel in this place local villagers say that they killed the farmers through that tunnel they went to Ichamati river throw away. In those days the villagers were so economically and mentally weak that they could not speak against all these Britishers and they knew that their loved ones were being killed one by one by the Britishers but still they did not dare to protest. When we entered this abandoned place, we saw a tunnel. The local villagers said that they used to smuggle dead bodies through this tunnel, but now this tunnel is completely closed because it was about 400 years ago, so it is normal for this tunnel to be closed.

Sharing with you a very real experience when I was looking at this tunnel it was as if some invisible force was pulling me and I couldn’t move away from that place a strong attraction I felt towards it and along with it I had a severe headache. It was a strange time as I stood there like an idiot not understanding everything. Then coming to the real story when British oppression was increasing little by little there was a brave person among the villagers who was persecuted by the British and it is also said that the whole family of that person was destroyed because of this British oppression so he was fearless because of his lost cause. There was no fear once he cut the throat of one of the British officers with his sword. Since this incident the building has been completely abandoned and now it is considered as a haunted place and it is true that many tourists visit it now but I say from my personal experience please do not take any children there because there is a strange negativity here. Energy works that I experienced myself only the very brave must go here. Because believe it or not there is definitely something called negative energy. The God whom we worship or the Creator to whom we bow down is just the opposite, that is, the power that harms us. Although we can’t say for sure if it has anything to do with any ghostly image, the local villagers consider this place as a haunted place.

We came out of this abandoned house and saw that there is a river next to it which is called Ichamati river this river is not very wide now i.e. it is surrounded by dirty jungle but this place is very popular as a ghost spot and can be visited in winters. Many tourists visit here. On the other side of this Ichamati river there is a large jute where one can spend some time and what you will like most here is the natural beauty of the environment i.e. what we mean by real rural image you can get here. Boats are available to cross the Ichamati river i.e. by boat you can go from one side of the river to the other. Even if you think you can book the boat for one hour or two hours then you have to spend a little bit of money, but I think if you are a couple i.e. you have husband or wife then this time is two hours or one hour boat. A trip to the Ichamati River will be very enjoyable. This place is both naturally beautiful and equally ideal for those who love adventure. But let’s say this, what I came to know from the local villagers is that there are many people from Kolkata or different places here to experience the experience of spending the night in that abandoned building. They were to spend the night but met with an accident although the cause of the accident is not known exactly but the local villagers can guess what happened to them. So now the villagers don’t allow any outsider to spend the night in this abandoned house because if something happens, they have to answer.

It was getting evening so we couldn’t stay here for long so we left early because the villagers were also saying that this place is not suitable for us to stay but whole day can be spent here as a travel experience if you can definitely come from sealdah station you have to come to chakda station Then from there you will get mangal code place car. This place is an ideal place for a day trip but before you come keep a few things in mind that the world has all kinds of things so don’t assume that you know everything in the world. People are not aware of the existence of things that never went away so before you make up your mind about something you should check the extent of your knowledge. India has many ghost places among them this one may not have any glorious history, but its infamous history has made it a place in people’s mind.
