Goddess of Impurity Enjoys Leftover Food

Devi Matangi is the Ninth Mahavidya among Dasa Mahavidya also Goddess of Impurity Enjoys Leftover Food. Not much is discussed about this goddess, but according to Hindu books, she is a very dangerous goddess. She is a form of Goddess Saraswati, but she is fierce form. According to Tantra, if one can satisfy this goddess, then he is highly enlightened. But the prasad offered to her is completely different from other pujas. And it is this different method of offering her that makes the matter so mysterious to many people.

Rule of worship

The rule for worshiping him is that dirty food should be served to him with unclean hands. She likes to eat food that other people leave behind i.e. leftover food. This green-hued goddess holds Bina in one hand and all the terrible weapons in the other and she has always a Tia bird. The dress she wears is a symbol of women’s menstruation.

According to Hindu scriptures once Goddess Parvati wanted to go to her father’s house and Lord Shiva said that if you don’t come free on time then I will go and fetch you. Then, when Goddess Parvati did not return on time, Lord Shiva disguised himself as a hawker and went to her father’s house. When he meets Goddess Parvati, he is eager to have intercourse with her. Seeing this Goddess Parvati got very angry and took her fierce form. Although eventually she realizes her mistake and she recognize Lord Shiva.

Her image of her is known as Goddess Matangi and it is said that she appeared as Matangini in a cremation ground and met Lord Shiva then popularly known as Goddess Matangi. But it is not that there is only this story about the origin of this goddess, there are many more stories that I have not mentioned. But the actual method of worship of this goddess is known to very few people and it is kept very secret. The main reason for keeping it secret is that even the slightest mistake during the puja procedure can lead to the death of the saint.
