Today it’s time uncovering some secrets of Nawab’s Reign in Murshidabad of West Bengal state of India. Murshidabad Kathgola Garden is a very favorite tourist spot. It is located in Lalbagh region in Murshidabad district of India. It is at a distance of 194 km from Kolkata. There is a 260-bigha palace of four merchant brothers named Lakshmi Path, Jago Path, Mahi Path and Dhana path, and many of the oldest sculptures, and one of the attractions here is the statue of European Renaissance city architect Seal Man and poet Michel Angelo, the temple of Adi Nath, the main Tirthankara of Jainism, the colorful Fishponds, animal and fish zoos and tunnels.
There is a large area of mango orchards, which are cultivated with different varieties of roses. In the 17th decade Lakshmi Path Jagat Path Mahi Path and Dhana path four business brothers came to Murshidabad from Rajasthan for their timber business. And they bought 32 bighas of land from Nawab Siraj Udd Daulah for Rs. Later they occupied a total of 250 bighas there. Later, after the death of Siraj Udd Daulah, Mirza Far’s son Mubarak Ali became Nawab in the palace where Siraj Udd Daulah lived. Three brothers along with Lakshmi Path, the owner of Kath Gola Garden, lease this land from him for 999 years. Although today this place is still under the control of Aditya and Sanjay Singh, the descendants of Lakshmi Put.
According to local people in history, there are many legends about the income of these four merchants, Lakshmi Path, Jagat Mahi Path and Dhan path. Some say they were engaged in timber trade and rose cultivation as well as trade in precious gems, Mani Mukt, which was highly secretive, while others said they were part of the Dassi Dakat gang, but they had very good relations with the Jagat Set and the English who ruled Bengal at that time. At that time. It is said that part of the conspiracy to kill the then Nawab Siraj Udd Daulah originated from here. When you first enter the Kathgola garden, you will see the surrounding mango groves and fresh birds, the four corners of the garden are Lakshmi path, Choko path, Mahi path and Dhana path’s horse. There is a road through the center of the garden and a lion gate is at a short distance from the road. As you enter through the lion gate, there is a two-storied palace in front, which was built by four brothers using lime, egg yolk and Amlaki juice as cement.
The palace was rebuilt by Lakshi path Singh in 1780 AD, about 23 years after Siraj Udd Daula’s death in 1757 AD. Lakshmi Patha Jagat Mahi Patha and Dhana path were Jain people. There is an Adi Nati temple built by them Adinath is the chief tirthankara among the 23rd tirthankaras of Jainism. There is a pond known as Rani pukur. Many colorful fishes were cultivated in this pond at that time. And when these fish died fish tombs were made in those days. whose tomb still exists. But now-a-days colored fishes are farmed here in this pond and the fishes are buried in the ground after they die. There are four domes on the four sides of the pond. And it is built by space ghats.
Currently the pond is off limits to tourists and only viewing is available. In front of the main gate of the palace are four iron chairs and a white stone table. Where these four business brothers had arranged a meeting. On entering the interior of the palace, one can see couches, various furniture, used items, which is now converted into a museum for tourists to visit. Phones or cameras are prohibited inside the palace. One of the attractions here is the tunnel. Which is located next to the palace. The tunnel is underground constructed by stairs. The tunnel is connected to the Bhagirati River in Murshidabad. It is said that this tunnel was used to go home to Jagat Set at that time.
Lakshmi path Jagatmohi path Dhano path used to trade their precious gems with the Jagat set. Later, Jagat Seth’s house fell into the Bhagirathi River in ruins. For which when the water of Bhagirathi River rises, the water in this tunnel also rises suddenly, and when the water of Bhagirathi River dries up, the water here also dries up suddenly. Also these four merchants had a Jalsaghar which is now a broken structure, today various dancers from different places, and here Jagat Set and the Englishmen of the then Siraj killers of the East India Company regularly hang out here. They entertained themselves daily as well as plotted the battle of Palash here and their means of transportation was this tunnel. This tunnel is currently closed to tourists from outside.The earliest sculpture of Michelangelo located here was created by a sculptor named Diwakar Pal. The diptych lacks the fingers of Michelangelo’s right hand.
Michelangelo was one of the most famous seal painters in Renaissance Europe. Michel angelo depicted through his engravings when the Roman rulers tortured the common people of the time, and the Roman emperor then cut off his fingers so that he could not recreate the engravings. This idol is made in that feature. Diwakar Bhaskar made this statue by cutting a stone.Various films and serials have been shot at Kath gola Palace in the past. And permission had to be obtained from Aditya and Sanjay Singh, descendants of Lakshmi path. who currently live in Bhavanipur, Kolkata and bear the maintenance costs of this palace.
At present, the entrance fee of Kath gola garden is 30 rupees per head. Sari is open from 6 am to 4:30 pm. It has become a very popular place for tourists. And there are various guide persons here to learn the many mysteries of the past. For a minimal ticket, the guide person reveals all the history to the tourists. Nearest station here is Murshidabad. It is located 4 km from Murshidabad Hazarduari. And it is about five kilometers from Murshidabad station. There are various Baharampur Kami and Murshidabad bound buses from Kolkata Dharmatala. And there are various express from Sealdah and Calcutta stations.
