Srirampur’s Glorious Traditional Rath Yatra

Mahesh Rath is located in Srirampur, Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Srirampur’s Glorious Traditional Rath Yatra is worldwide famous. It is the oldest temple of Jagannath Dev in West Bengal. Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra are present here as the main deities. Also worshiped here are Radha Krishna idol, Shiv Linga, Bajrangbali idol, Ramakrishna- Sarada Devi idol, Vivekananda idol, Maa Kali and Graho raj deity.

There is a Nath temple and bathing temple of Jagannath Dev. Every day the Lord is offered 51 types. This cooking is done on a wooden stove. Bhog are organized for devotees, but prior application is required. Temple opening hours are 6 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to midnight with exceptions on certain days. During Rath Yatra is organized here in a grand manner.

Devotees gather in large numbers on the day of Soja Rath Ulta Rath. Jagannath Dev Balaram and Subhada went for a visit to Gun dija temple in a chariot and returned after 8 days on the reverse chariot day. According to mythology, Gundi ja is the aunty of Jagannath Dev. The Gundicha Temple is located a short distance away.

Since 1396 AD, this chariot rule has been observed. This temple was first built by King Manohar Roy of Sheoraphuli . The temple is 30 feet high. The first statue was made by Drava Nanda Brahmachari. Kolkata to Srirampur distance is 19 km from Howrah there are many local trains and buses.
