
One of 51 Sati Pith in Burdwan
Sarvamangala Temple is One of 51 Sati Pith in Burdwan, located on the northern border of Banka River in Burdwan district of West Bengal state in India. It is the oldest Navaratna temple in West Bengal with 9 peaks forming the temple. King Kirti Chand of Burdwan established this temple in 1702 AD. But it is heard that three Brahmins used to worship this idol before that. At present there is a ten-sided idol made of rough stone. There is three Shiva temples made of black stone named Mitre Swar, Chandreshwar, Indre Swar. and two white stone Shiva temples named Rameshwar and Baneshwar. There are a total of five Shiva temples and one Nath temple and Sarvamangala temple. The temple features Nipun by terracotta.
It is said in history and folklore that people of Bagdi Tapa Shili community lived on the northern border of Burdwan. They picked up a hard stone idol while fishing. At first, I did not understand, so I stepped on the stone, the snail was crushed by placing it on the stone. Those shells were bought by the lime traders for making lime. At some point the stone went to the lime merchant by mistake. It melts in fire to make lime as its product. Stone does not burn in fire. On the other hand, three Brahmins and King Kirti Chand get a dream of Maa Sarvamangala and are ordered to worship her. Long before King Kirti Chand discovered the stone, the three Brahmins started worshiping Mother Sarvamangala. Later King Kriti Chand brought the idol of the goddess from those three brahmins and set up the temple and he took all the expenses of the temple on his own and entrusted the worship to the three brahmins.
In this temple, perform wedding ceremony, Annaprasan and Hal Khatar puja at the beginning of the year. Maa Sarvamangala is known as the main deity to Burdwan residents.
