
Rajpalace Participated in Draupadi’s Swayambar
Tamralipta is located in East Midnapur district of West Bengal later it was named as Tamluk. It is said that The King of this rajpalace participated in Draupadi’s Swayambar sabha 5000 years ago. The place was so important in ancient India because it was at the epicenter of Forgein trade. It is also said that one king from this Raj palace had participated in Swayambar Sabha of Draupadi. The distance of this place from Kolkata is about 90km. Nearest rail station is Sahid Matangini.
Brief History of Raj palace
The palace was built by the Mauryan Kings in the 5th century BC. Many freedom fighters also visited here. For both of Hindu & Buddhist religion this place carries significant importance. Buddhism spreads from here. In ancient times it was known as ” Tamralipta Bandar”. Chinese Explorers Fa-Hien & Hiuen Tsang came here. Again, from this place Mahendra the son of Emperor Ashoka went to Sinhalese to propagate Buddhism. Tamralipta or Tamluk also took important part for war declaration against British.
Name of Some Sages Associated with The Palace
The palace what we see now is an actually unfinished house. King Laxminarayan wanted to complete it but he could not complete it due to family feuds. Once this palace was near to river but at present river is far away from it. Tamluk raj palace is actually built by a special technique of mix concept Indo Islamic. It may be noted that during the salt satyagraha movement in 1930 this palace housed satyagrahis. in 1938 Subhas Chandra Bose held a secret meeting with revolutionaries at here. There is a temple just behind the palace. Indian government has declared it as National Monument. Adjacent to this palace there is a pond where great accident took place during the reign of king in which many people died. Therefore, many miracles are prevalent in the vicinity of this pond.
