Banned movie in India

In the early 1980s, Indian film history saw the release of a movie called Banded Queen. In the secluded valleys of northern India, this banded queen aka Falan Devi, on whom the film is based, served as the leader of a gang of dacoits. The movie basically shows what happens to children from low income families in India. It is a real-life movie, although the movie was banned in India because it showed a lot of sexual activity.

Phoolan Devi was born in a poor family and was one of the six children of her parents who gave her in marriage to an old man in exchange for a cow. She then had to engage in constant sexual intercourse with her husband of 33 years, which was extremely distressing for her. The scenes that are depicted here in this movie are very clear even though several scenes of this movie will make you cringe but it is based on real context. Tortured and oppressed by her husband since childhood her husband only used her as a sex machine never saw her as a child so forced to run away to her parents but her parents also rejected her.

The movie then shows how 25 people from her village will do something different like rape by defaming her and everyone in the village is in silent support. The movie however picks up earlier and shows that Phoolan Devi is kidnapped by a gang of bandits and subsequently meets a gangster named Vikram. Gradually she develops a love relationship with that Vikram and gradually she also starts forgetting her past. After that Phoolan Devi took the bandit forward with her extraordinary skills and her fame spread far and wide because till then no one believed that a woman could be the leader of a bandit and she could manage a bandit so well. Although she did a lot of social work in addition to robbery, she saved many women from being abused and raped. As a result, her fascination spread around and created a separate public for her alongside the bandits.

Vikram then says that the gang member with whom Phoolan Devi had developed an intimate love affair was killed by high-caste bandits, making it very impossible for Phoolan Devi to sustain the gang. As her fame grew, her team shrank and her power diminished. There is a beautiful scene in this movie when he goes to his mother after becoming the leader of the bandits i.e. he goes back to his old village when he has to endure a lot of humiliation this moment really evokes a painful situation in the audience.

The movie basically shows how women are portrayed as objects of consumption in Indian society and that’s why the movie was criticized by many people when Phoolan Devi was gang-raped and the scene was shown in a very gruesome manner which was very embarrassing for the audience. This scene was very badly made this sim showed Phoolan Devi in the room and one by one men enter her room and rape her and come out and she is heard screaming loudly but no one is helping her. As we watch Devi surrender to the state governor as thousands chant her name, we respond not only to her fame but also to their joy that a low-caste illiterate village woman was able to live her life independently and independently. That she was a criminal is almost beside the point, in a society whose very rule is crime against women.

A famous director said about this movie that I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone but when I personally saw this movie and after watching it I couldn’t feel normal. I felt as if I had gone back in time to that medieval barbarism that exists in every man who always wants to exploit women. It is true that this movie is not an entertaining movie it depicts a barbaric island of society which is basically associated with various medieval tortures but here in this movie there are some scenes which will definitely be objected by the Censor Board but these are all true. The fact is that all these incidents happened at some point and that’s why the director has highlighted them through his artistic technique even though it is currently a banned movie.
