The economic condition of people involved in cottage industries in India is very poor. We haggle with poor people when we buy things, but we cannot do it in shopping malls.
People involved in cottage industries never got their due value even in ancient times and no one values them today. Maybe you can say that what is more naturally has less value like water is abundant in our society or environment so we don’t value water even though we know its importance.. Different furniture designed in wood is not very popular nowadays because people are choosing other metal products as an alternative to wood. I went to one such wooden shop with my family to buy some things and I saw the way my family was haggling and I was very disappointed to see the face of the shopkeeper and I felt sorry for him. Even though I don’t know much about the woodworking industry, I can tell by looking at the item that the fair price for this item should be higher than that but his customers are asking him to take it for less than what he is willing to sell it for. As I said nowadays the popularity of this industry has decreased due to the advent of alternatives so the shopkeeper is forced to sell us the item at that low price but his face shows that he is not very happy because he is being sold at a very low price and is not getting his fair remuneration. Many people may say about the ability of the customer to capture the price but I am disappointed in some cases because price-bargaining is not everywhere. If you go to a shopping mall you can’t do any price-bargaining.
With many people involved in cottage industries it is people taking advantage of their economic weakness to cheat them or in other words they are not getting the right value of their remuneration which is unfair and at the same time harmful to the society and economy as a class of people are being deprived for a long time which should not be the case. I saw a Shahrukh Khan movie where Shahrukh Khan was playing a character and he is in a village house and he goes there and tries to buy some earthenware and finds out that they are being sold at a very low price. He then told the seller that if he had sold them in the city, he would have fetched double the price, but the people of the village did not want to pay that much. But some traders buy these goods from them at a very low price and sell them at a very high price in the city. The people who are producing the product are not getting their right price it is unfair in a way the government may not be able to see everything with them but we who are educated people who claim to be conscious who claim to be civilized should also think a little bit that we are bargaining with the poor people because we are getting opportunities while they If the thing is selling to the city in a shopping mall then we don’t have the opportunity to make name-calling i.e. we can’t bargain with the rich man but we are depriving the poor man of his fair value by giving him the price we should think about, no matter how much we claim to be civilized people.
