Deathplace of Devdas.
Today we will know where is the deathplace of Devdas. Devdas Paro and Chandramukhi’s love triangle stole the world’s attention and appreciation. This novel written by Saratchandra is based on a true story so today I will take you to the place This is the place where Devdas breathed his last i.e. when he was going to Parvati’s village Hati Pota to Parvati’s in-laws, but Parvati’s in-laws did not allow Paro to meet him.
According to Sharatchandra’s writing Par and father-in-law’s house was a zamindar’s house, now a primary school has been built on that zamindar’s house. Many believe that Saratchandra died in this Hatipota village as he could not see his lover for the last time and after his death his body was cremated here in this village. Although Saratchandra did not write anything about what happened to Paro or Chandravati after Devdas’s death, people here say that after Devdas’s death, Paro moved to his own father’s house in Hooghly and spent the rest of his life there.
When we came here and talked to the local people, we came to know that until some time ago there was no paved road system and one had to come here by bullock carts but now the transport system has been improved so that tourists can come here and many tourists come here. Saratchandra mentions in his story that Devadasa died under a big tree and there was a dammed pond next to it but according to the rule of time there is none now. However, on the initiative of the local villagers, a big tree has been planted at the place and even a program is organized every year on the birth anniversary of Sharatchandra.
Bhuvan Mohan Chowdhury, who was the husband of Paro, i e, the master of the zamindar house in the story, is not there now, but a picture of that house was taken in 1958, which is now hanging in front of the primary school. Hatipota village is located about 30 km from Pandua station, where the story of Devdas is involved. After the death of Devdas, Bhuvan Mohan Chowdhury, who did not even see his face, arranged his cremation with a dome, so visit here and you will find the old history here.
