Famous Temple of Howrah

The Uluberia Kali Temple, which is a famous temple of Howrah, is located in the Uluberia sub-division of the Indian state of West Bengal. This place is also called Uluberia Kalibari. Here Kali is worshiped as Mother Anandamayi. The temple is built with 9 peaks, shaped like a carved stone idol and adorned with gold ornaments. Which is also called Navaratna temple. There are Ma Anandamayi Temple, Durga Temple, Radha Krishna Temple. Special days like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Raas festival are organized here in Jak Jamak style. A month long fair is held here on Ras Purnima which is called Ras Utsav. Every day food is distributed here. This temple is open daily till midnight for devotees and travelers. The river Ganga flows by the side of the temple. History has it that on the 17th Baishakh of 1327 (Bengali calender), Uluberia sub-division ruler Shri Jatindramohan Bandopadhyay and Uluberia court advocate Shri Shashi jivan Sen built this temple. The then Andul Raja Shailendra nath Mitra gave one bigha of land for the construction of this temple. The statue was created by Gokul Bihari Bhaskar, an artist from Katowice. Nearby rainway station uluberia and Full Swar Uluberia distance from Kolkata or Howrah is 41 km. Daily local trains are available from Howrah station and buses are also available.
